History and evolution of FIPV

On May 19, 1929, the Founding Act of the International Federation of Basque Pelota was signed in Buenos Aires (Argentina), at the initiative of Jean Ibarnegaray (French Federation of Basque Pelota) and with the support of the Spanish Confederation of Basque Pelota and the Argentine Pelota Federation.

The Statutes of the FIPV were signed on March 2, 1930 in Espelette (France).

Due to World War II and the Spanish Civil War, its activity was minimal until 1945. Then exhaustive work began to determine the official specialties, regulate the games and play areas and unify the material, in agreement with the affiliated countries. . One of the most important tasks was organizing World Championships.
Its headquarters were always in Spain: until 1978 in Madrid, from 1978 to 1992 in San Sebastián, and from 1992 to 2003 in the Urdanibia Palace in Irún (Guipuzcoa). As of June 1, 2003, the headquarters moved to Pamplona, provisionally to Trinquete Mendillorri.
On April 11, 2007, the FIPV moved to its headquarters in Pamplona at 67 Bernardino Tirapu Street, where it remained until September 2020.
Finally, on September 18, 2020, it moved to the current headquarters at the Navarra Arena in Pamplona in Plaza Aizagerria 1.
