Miller Backs South Africa To Shine At T20 World Cup

David Miller believes South Africa has the talent to do great things at the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. The 33-year-old is a supporter of the Proteas having played 104 matches for the T20 team in the last 12 years. Miller has scored 1944 runs at an average of 32.40 during that period and will be an integral part of their attempt to win the World Cup this time around. He has previously represented his country in the tournament and was part of the team that narrowly missed out on the semi-finals last year.

South Africa was beaten by Australia in their opening group match and then registered wins over West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and England. By the way, if you like to bet on cricket, be sure to check out our list of handy apps: https://asian-bookies.net/cricket-betting-apps-india/.

However, despite the equal number of points with England and Australia, they were eliminated from the competition on a clean sheet.

Although South Africa has never qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, their recent performances have sparked rumors that they may be ready to break the duck. Earlier this year, they drew 2-2 in a series with India, and in the summer they picked up wins over England and Ireland. Miller believes South Africa have improved significantly of late and feels their performance against England proved them to be a team to be feared.

"We've been building the team for a while now and everyone understands their role," he told Betway. "We are playing very, very well as a team.

"Individual play is obviously crucial and guys are putting their hands up when needed. But as a team, we have bought into what we want to do and what works.

"It was fantastic to captain the team to a series win in England. Winning in England was a challenge for us."

Semi-final appearances in 2009 and 2014 are South Africa's best performances in the T20 World Cup, despite boasting a good 62.85 win rate in the tournament. Missing out on the last four in 2021 was undoubtedly a tough pill to swallow for a team that has struggled to find global silverware. Australia, India and England lead the betting for this year's tournament, with South Africa, Pakistan and New Zealand at the bottom of the list. The Proteas have played alongside India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the Super 12 stage and will be joined by the two teams that emerge from the first round. West Indies could be one of those teams, further increasing the magnitude of the task South Africa will face in Australia. You too can right now learn how to place bets for cricket?

While Miller admits it won't be easy to get out of the group, he says the team has the talent to progress if its superb players step up.

"Looking back at winning the Indian Premier League with Gujarat Titans, obviously you need consistent performances, that's obvious," he added.

"Enjoy each other's success and you want to be the winner of the game. If you tick the boxes and do the right things, the result tends to go your way. So I hope everything goes the right way at the World Cup."

Fatigue could be an issue early in the T20 World Cup as the increasingly busy schedule puts heavy demands on the players. There have been queries about how to address the situation, particularly the number of injuries that some of the sport's top stars have suffered. However, after a period where matches were canceled due to the pandemic, Miller was happy to put his body on the line for South Africa.

"It's trying to make sure we're in the best shape we can be in terms of physique, making sure we're really fulfilling our requirements in the gym and staying fit and healthy," he said.

"You want to play as much cricket as possible while you are in good shape. I have decided to listen to my body at this stage and try to play cricket as much as possible."

With so many talented players taking part in the T20 World Cup, many experts have predicted that there could be huge results during the tournament. Afghanistan currently holds the record for the highest T20I score in the world with 278/3 against Ireland in February 2019. The Czech Republic also hit 278 when losing by four wickets to Turkey in the Continental Cup six months later. Many experts have predicted that the 300-run international barrier could be broken and Miller does not rule out the possibility.

"The amount of skill in world cricket is pretty phenomenal," Miller said. "As a striker, it means staying one step ahead and being crisp for as long as possible.

"The fear factor is now gone because it has been shown what is possible. Teams are not intimidated by big chases or running speed.

"At some point, you have to say 300 in a T20 or 500 in an ODI is going to happen."

The T20 World Cup kicks off on 16 October and eight teams will compete for the four remaining places in the Super 12 stage. Sri Lanka are expected to rise from Group A, with Namibia, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates vying for second place. West Indies are expected to top Group B with Zimbabwe, Scotland and Ireland battling it out to join them in the next stage of the competition.

The Group A winners and Group B runners-up will join Afghanistan, Australia, England and New Zealand in Group 1. The winners of Group B and the runners-up of Group A will join Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and South Africa in Group 2, with two teams from each Super 12 group advancing to the semi-finals, with the winners meeting at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13 November.
