Working visit to encourage the development of pelota in Portugal
Pamplona, 29th July 2016
On the 27th of July, the 1st Vice President of the FIPV, Mr. Julián García, together with the General Director, Mr. Fabián Quesada, met with the President of the Portuguese Association of Pelota (APPB), Mr. Nelson Saraiva.
They visited the sports facilities in Lisbon and they held interesting working meetings with the local responsible persons in Moita. A week earlier, this town had been the headquarters of the 1st Portuguese Frontball Championship.
Meetings were held with Mr. André Jorge Pagaime and Ms. Sandra Santos, who are, respectively, in charge of the School of Pelota and the facilities and sports programmes specialist of Moita. The FIPV delegation was welcomed by the President of the local junta de freguesia, Mr. Manuel Vasques Miguel, who showed a very positive attitude to continue organizing promotional events and programmes in their town.
The FIPV's support to the development of Pelota in Portugal shows in the agreements reached. In this sense, joint promotional activities will be held within the educational field. In the next months, a few visits with the people in charge of sports from the Portuguese government and the Lisbon municipal government will be organized. These intend to request the increase of existing facilities for our sport.
The President of the Portuguese Association of Pelota Basca (APPB) described the visit by the FIPV's management to his country as very positive. He trusts that the current efforts will serve to increase the number of Pelota fans in Portugal.
